After surviving a couple of early chances by Layton, Fremont took control of the game's tempo by using its trademark high-pressure to disrupt the Lancers' passing.
"Fremont really took us out of our game with their pressure. We really had to be mentally tough to absorb that," Talamantez said. "The kids battled; they fought hard. We've had some big ups and downs this year, but they never lost faith in their teammates or themselves."While Fremont was controlling the pace, it came down to Layton's defense and senior goalkeeper Devin Parkinson to keep them in the game. Parkinson made multiple quality plays against the Wolves, leading Talamantez to call him "the difference in the game."
