"It was a punch the Silver Wolves never saw coming. Just seconds after a goal from Fremont's Scott Chambers broke a scoreless tie, Layton drew an infraction against Silver Wolves for being inside the 10-yard zone around the ball on the ensuing kickoff. Senior forward Christian Cannavina drove the kick down the field to the head of junior forward Adam Evans, who redirected it into the net to level the score at a goal each. The shocking turn of pace sent the Lancers soaring over the final 15 minutes, culminating with a tough cross goal shot from senior defender Mark Rigby that propelled Layton to the 2-1 victory Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the state 5-A boys soccer tournament at Fremont High School.
