What a heartbreaker. This was a game of excellent defense that took us through 104 minutes of play with no score by either team. The painful winning score came off the leg of a Fremont defender as the "golden" goal in double overtime.
The game started contentiously when a Viewmont player ran through our keeper, Colton Higley. It was disheartening to watch him lay still on the ground and then be loaded into an ambulance and carted away while the opposing team celebrated getting only a yellow card. Many felt that a miscarriage of justice had been dealt to our team and that #21 should have sat for the rest of the game while his team played one player short. Nevertheless, that was not how it played out on Tuesday afternoon. #21 did eventually get a second yellow card and did watch his team play, but due to some crazy high school rule, his infraction was deemed a "soft" red and his team was allowed to play for the remainder of the game with eleven players.
Luke Weston was called upon to perform goal keeping duties and did a great job in goal. Everyone is relieved that Colton is fine, there is a bye on Thursday, and we will begin again on Tuesday against Layton.
All in all, three goals by the offense, one goal on the defense. Not a bad start. Go Silver Wolves!
